So, likely you've got some questions like, what's with the camels, and how can I arrange a photo shoot and what are your qualifications?

Here are some of the more common questions We're asked, but if you don't find the answer you're looking for, please contact Jordan to find out!

  1. Environmental and Social Responsibility?
  2. Are you qualified to be on my job site?
  3. Is your equipment intrinsically safe?
  4. What do I wear for this shoot?
  5. What are your rates?
  6. What on earth is a Dromedary?

Environmental and Social Responsibility?  What's that all about?

Working in the Oil and Gas industry over the past several years we've seen drastic decreases in the environmental impact of industry operations and drastically increased worker and public safety.

There is still a long way to go and it is the prime goal of Dromedary Creative to support people and organizations that provide services and initiatives that better our world even if just a little bit.

Is Dromedary qualified to be on my industrial site?

Dromedary has several years of on-site experience and and has a keen awareness for the equipment and environment around me. Safety briefings are performed where required to ensure not only our own safety but that of your site and most important, your staff.

Dromedary Creative contractors arrive at each job with the following:

  • All wheel drive vehicle suitable for back roads and remote sites
  • All the cameras and equipment necessary for the intended shoot
  • CSA approved PPE including: hard hats, coveralls, steel toed boots and safety glasses
  • Standard First-Aid Certification
  • H2S Alive Certification

Before heading out to site we will confirm whether any additional equipment or certifications are required and if necessary, obtain the equipment and paperwork prior to arrival on site

Is your equipment intrinsically safe?

Our primary photographic equipment is weather sealed, however since digital cameras and lighting are battery powered they cannot be considered intrinsically safe. However, if you require photographs of an area that requires it, a couple of options are still available if discussed ahead of time to allow adequate preparation for the shoot:

  1. Manual Film cameras can be used without risk of electrical spark.  They still contain moving parts and as such may have the potential to develop a static charge but are unlikely to cause problems.
  2. A camera fitted with a long telephoto lens can be used from outside the danger area to inspect equipment from a distance.  Naturally this limits our creative options so this technique is best employed for inspection and documentation purposes rather than for marketing materials!

If these options do not work, please contact Jordan to discuss your specific needs and we can try to build a solution that will work for you!

What do I wear for this shoot?

For industrial shoots safety is paramount and it is important to show your company in the best light. Therefore all of your staff will be photographed wearing:

  • ALL appropriate PPE for the work environment.
  • Clean coveralls, preferably all in company colors and with company logos.
  • Hardhats with company logo are always a nice touch too

For Portraits:

  • First and foremost, something you feel comfortable in!
  • solid colours
  • long sleeves
  • complementary colours for couples and groups

What are your rates?

Rates are determined by a few different factors including how long we will need to be on site, and the final intended use of the photographs. (An image for a local publication is priced much differently than one for a world-wide advertising campaign).  Rest assured though, your pricing is always fair!

What on earth is a Dromedary?

dromedary |ˈdräməˌderē|
noun ( pl. -daries)
an Arabian camel, esp. one of a light and swift breed trained for riding or racing.
ORIGIN Middle English : from Old French dromedaire or late Latin dromedarius (camelus) ‘swift camel,’ based on Greek dromas, dromad- ‘runner.’

To be clear, a dromedary is a camel of the single humped variety which is not to be confused with the Bactrian, two-humped camel that originates in Asia.

Since our first encounter with Dromedaries in a Persian desert we've been fascinated by these incredible creatures.  From a distance their graceful and methodical movements guide them across endless dunes of sand with little apparent effort. Up close though, is where their true colors really begin to shine for they are not only full of grace, but vim and vinegar too.  Each of the dromedaries we've had the pleasure of meeting all displayed a curious nature combined with a no-nonsense attitude, the wisdom of the ages and an unknowing comedy that has rounded them out as some of our favorite creatures on this planet.

Over the years the Dromedary has become a symbol of sustainability and low environmental impact which fits right in with the incredible clients we serve!

And that's what's up with all the camels!
